The walls of my body
Are very much like the walls of your house.
Whitewashed and repainted,
After every move.
So, like I leave my self and return when the world gets too much,
I repaint my skin,
In a color no one would expect me to.
I hide behind reconstructed doors,
An extra padlock
A higher fence
A bigger garden
Darker windows,
Heavier curtains,
And dim lights.
Mostly because I don’t want to be seen.
I keep my heart hidden
Inside a Taylor Swift song and
I remind myself why
I wanted to be vulnerable
With a tinge of sadness
I close my doors
Till I’m ready to step out again.
Like your house, with a stretch of
Daisies and a patch of roses,
I have parts that bloom
But unlike your sprinklers,
I often forget to water them.
My story, is a bundle of empty printing sheets
Because my life is a cluster of space bars.
Childhood,
Space.
Teenage,
Space.
Adulthood,
Space.
And I’m still writing,
Each chapter a little more empty
Than the previous one
So like the chapped paint
In the room you keep locked,
My mind is a collection
Of falling walls.
So we are similar,
But different.
Filled with hope that somewhere
Someday
We’ll rebuild and step out
Of a brand new home.
And like your house,
I hold it together with emotion.
With a family
That stays inside my body.But unlike your house,
I’m the only member.
